iris van dongen’s art is really incredible.  large scale drawings featuring models that are at once iconic, or as figures of mythology, as she describes it.  much of her work features skulls as part of the clothing to “show that it is from the present day: a symbol from a contemporary subculture and, at the same time, an age-old symbol.”  she doesn’t seem to have her own website, but you can check out more of her work at artnews.
